KILLING US SOFTLY 3!
Gene Kilbourne's third presentation of killing us softly revealed to us that the advertisers abuse people, especially women. Women are being exploited in advertisements, usually involving clothing. In her presentation Gene demonstrates how many women are portayed as property, or less important than men, or seemingly perfect. Many of the advertisements in her presentation showed computer-enhanced pictures of women to make them seem perfect. They also infered that men are dominant over women by giving the women specific facial expressions or adding captions. She acknowledges the fact that the advertisers also enhance the pictures of men, but she immediately defends it by saying that they do not go too far in demeaning men. Not only did they use these advertising tactics they also used inanimate objects to represent different acts, like my "favorite" a tabasco sauce bottle and a potato, this was supposed to represent intercourse. She also brought up some useful and surprising facts, like the average person sees over 3,000 advertisements daily, and that the money spent on advertisements has been increased 9 times the origional amount. I believe that Gene Kilbourne has stumbled upon something that many other people don't notice, and it should be stopped.

where I'm from
Where I am From…
I am from the freshly cut grass.
The bland aroma of pouring rain.
The smoke of a burning campfire.
I am from the untouched nature.
I am from the wild deer, free and friendly.
The overgrown ivy in my yard.
The fertile soil.
I am from the T.V.
I am from Sponge Bob.
The silly pointless sitcoms.
The annoying reality shows
I am from my coach.
I am from my friends.
The many relatives.
The competitors and rivals.
I am from the Teevan branch
I am from freckles.
The red-brown hair.
I am from the memories of things I cannot change.
